About figurecost
figurecost publishes free cost calculators for home repairs and other large expenses. We are not a contractor, a lender or an insurer, and no company pays to appear in our estimates.
Where the numbers come from
Every calculator starts from published price guides: cost surveys, contractor pricing pages and industry reports. For each item we collect the low and high figures that several sources print, keep the exact wording and the page address, and use the median of the sources when they disagree. If no source we can open gives a figure, the calculator leaves that item out and the page says so.
The sources for each calculator are listed under its estimate, together with the month we last checked them.
What an estimate can and cannot tell you
An estimate shows the range most jobs fall into. It cannot see your house, your local labor market or what a contractor finds once work starts. Use it to judge whether a quote is in a normal range and to compare quotes line by line, then rely on written quotes for the decision.
Corrections
If a figure looks wrong or a source has changed, write to support@figurecost.com and tell us which page and which number. We recheck the sources and update the page.
